I was informed that she was too old for flower, butterfly or other younger themed birthdays, so she was going with the Super Hero theme; one that never is too young or too old, right?
Upon arriving home from school (where she had brought in her own version of pin the cape on the superhero for her class to play), she found out that her house had been invaded by an arch villain - which had been created by all of us coloring different face parts as an activity for Family Home Evening the Monday before her birthday.
We had to follow the footsteps that the villain had left behind to find clues like the following:
"You can't find me, unless you are smart!" We were smart; we put together a super hero puzzle.
"You can't find me, unless you can fly!" We could fly, minus maybe me (I hurt my big toe for real; we are talking throbbing pain), and for that we all earned awesome 'hand towel capes.'
"You can't find me, unless you are strong!" We all were buff enough to dominate the girls' big bears in a wrestling match, and for that we earned spiked defensive/offensive wristbands;o)
And through banding together, wink wink, we found the arch villain. But in order to defeat him,...we also had to be good shots!
Jed chose to take the short range/direct shot approach.
After we all knocked him out (ha ha... gotta love the baby on the diaper box that looks somewhat concerned),...
The BIRTHDAY SUPER GIRL literally smashed his face in, getting her leg stuck in the box in the process;o)
Here are our SUPER KIDS...da da da dum!
Next, we went onto the unwrapping of the gifts. She got a few great ones, but almost all of them were money (per Addie's request). We let her know that we would let her get an iPod Touch if she saved up her money to get one. A bit less than a year later, she had saved up her money (always requesting money instead of gifts on holidays, as well), and she was able to buy her very own iPod touch with a case for it, and had one dollar left to her name afterwards.
We were proud of her for being patient and persistent.
Emmy enjoyed the wrapping paper almost as much as I did in the pictures of my first birthday! As for the cake, I tried my hand at fondant, and had a very moderate success, but I was proud of myself for trying. Plus, I think I could improve my skills a lot with more practice; I seem to always learn a ton from my mistakes, especially in cooking. Fondant is kind of fun to work with.
Luckily, Addie was not a harsh critic; she really liked my warped, little rendition of a superhero girl flying over the earth.
We had fun SUPER-sizing ourselves into heroes for a very special day for a very smart, high flying, strong, straight shooting SUPER GIRL!
