4th of July Weekend

With Jared hardly ever being home for an entire weekend, it is up to me to come through with activities that will make the kids happy and keep me from moping about missing him. The holiday weekends are sometimes the hardest psychologically, because it is easy for the mind to tell you that it is so unfair that they have to work. So, I have found that I am happiest when I actively combat these thoughts by getting out and going on adventures!
Our adventure for the Saturday of the July 4th weekend was to go and discover a new park, have a picnic there, and try out some of its trails.

I think going on the hike/walk was the funnest part. I love nature! I love taking pictures in nature! Hence, I took a lot.
Addie is getting pretty good at posing; Lexi tries.
Whether she succeeds or not is up for debate.
Sometimes, I have to learn the hard way,
the really hard way!!! Word to the wise (at least to the wiser than me), big strollers are NOT conducive to hiking paths!
I can not tell you how happy I was when I saw the park! I thought the path would be more clearly marked and that there wouldn't be diverging paths. I was wrong. So at a few points, I thought I may have gotten me and my three kids lost in the woods; Brilliant Barbara! I was so relieved when I saw the playground through the opening in the trees.
Because we made it out on the other side, I was able to come through with letting us eat our flavor ices and with letting the girls play on the two playground areas.

The other best part of the day was letting Jed swing outside for the first time. Addie did the pushing; I did the picture taking. I think he kind of liked it?

And as for the 4th itself,...
It turned out great. While waiting for Jared, the girls and I created firework bingo with crayons and glitter glue. We had enough fun just making the bingo cards themselves, that I did not fret too much when we forgot them that night. It probably would've been pretty hard to play it in the dark anyway!
We had a ton of fun awaiting the fireworks, especially since we brought the activity blanket that my mom had made for us. Plus, the kids had fun just running up and down the hill.
They made some new friends doing it, that later joined them in having fun on our super cool blanket.
THANKS SO MUCH, MOM!
It was really fun, especially since Jared didn't get called in until after the fireworks were over!
THANKS MOMMA PETE for the adorable, patriotic shirts. They made me happy!

  1. Barb- you are such a good mommy. It's so hard to want to get out and do something when your husband is not around. You're amazing. I am so glad you found the park. Fun adventure. :) I think the world of you and think you are the best mamma. :)
