It turns out that Adelaide might be...ha ha ha!
She made us aware of this fact after she had already been on a daddy daugther's date with her dad the previous week, but was aware of Jared taking Alexia out when she was at school one day. She told me specific instructions about having to tape up her note to Daddy after he had already left for the date, but before he would get back home. Initially, I just thought it was a nice picture as it had hearts all over the front of it, but as I hung it up in her prescribed place I became aware that there was more there. Since she spells phonetically at this point, I have translated the note that was on the back for all of you. Jared and I both got a huge kick out of the following:
I know that we went on one, too, but I feel sad and I feel left out. I know that we went on a daddy daughter's date, but I miss you, so I don't like when you leave. That's why I maybe was being sad. I do love you. Did you have a good date? Well, I didn't.One thing that stands out about her style is that she has mastered how to use 'I statements' correctly, getting her point across very, very well, but not offensively!
And the jealousy doesn't stop there. Jed got this blow up donkey for his birthday, and Lexi soon started pretending that he was her soon to be husband. Well, as soon as Addie caught wind of it, she tried to persuade Alexia that they had to take turns playing that the donkey was their husband. Since Alexia has a mind of her own, and a propensity to try to get Addie mad, she put up a fight letting Addie know that the donkey only loved her. I think they finally came to a compromise, though, since Addie became willing to dress him up in a witches outfit, thinking that it looked like the groom's tux.
I sure hope that this fascination with marrying a donkey doesn't translate later on to them marrying a figurative one;o) Please let this just be a phase!!!
The only thing that we have found to work with our girls, not unleashing the envy bug, is taking them to do the exact same thing, at the exact same time, where they can choose equal but slightly different things, like at Addie's school carnival. They each got their face painted with a flower, but they picked different colors; they each got a balloon, but one picked an animal and one a hat; they each got a feather in their hair, but one picked purple and one pink. It worked very nicely.
We employed the same method recently, taking them to a paint your own pottery store. They each got to pick a piece and paint it, but Addie chose the plate and Alexia chose the cookie monster mug.
I love how their choices and their painting styles reflect their personalities! One is a perfectionist and the other just enjoys life. Can you tell which is which by their masterpieces?
You would think that Jed would be immune from the envy bug more, since he is so young and a boy. NOT SO!!! Lately, when his daddy comes home, it is NOT okay for anyone else but Jed to be held by a-Da-Da-Da! If this rule isn't adhered to, Jed has been known to cry until he is literally blue in the face to try to persuade all to submit to this rule. It usually works!!!
Watching them, realizing how ridiculous the things are that they get envious of, makes me want to work even harder on not being jealous of others. I am sure some of the things we 'covet' will turn out to be as ridiculous as fighting over a blowup donkey;o)
